Meghan’s Story

My husband & I got married later in life. We went to high school together and then reconnected many years later. Shortly after we got married, we began to pursue the path of adoption. Due to some health concerns and workplace exposures for myself, we decided that fertility treatments weren’t for us and we would pursue adoption. In Sept 2019, while we were waiting our marriage requirement for the agency we were interested in, we were approached by a friend for a potential adoption. In January of 2020, that match disrupted. Shortly thereafter we fell victim to a scam. At the end of January, we submitted our homestudy to an adoption consultant. Two days later we were presented with a situation who would become our daughter Gracie! She was due on May 6th but in the midst of COVID she was born March 15th, 1000 miles from home in Florida. After 2 weeks in the NICU we brought her home and she was the light in a very uncertain world. We have a wonderful open adoption with multiple members of her family and visit yearly.

We started our journey for our second adoption when Gracie was about 17 months old. We ended up matched in the same town she was born in with an amazing birth mother. Our second daughter Josie was born in April 2022. We also have an open adoption with her whole family.

I have been a part of the IAS organization since 2019 and have met some life long friends. I am looking forward to helping this organization grow and thrive into a supportive and welcoming community for all of those pursuing adoption and experiencing infertility.
