Infertility and Adoption Support Grant FAQs

Beginning in April 2023, IAS will be awarding grants on a quarterly basis!

How often are grants awarded?

Grants will be awarded based on available funds (through IAS memberships and fundraising efforts).  The goal is to award grants quarterly to eligible members of IAS.

Who can apply?

Infertility and Adoption Support, Inc. accepts applications from couples and individuals regardless of race, religion, gender, ethnicity, marital status, or sexual orientation.

Please note the following criteria:

  • Must have a completed, approved, and current home study (for adoption grants)
  • Must currently be going through treatment with a licensed infertility doctor or be in the process of surrogacy (for infertility grants)
  • If the adoption has been finalized, you are no longer eligible for an adoption grant.
  • Applicants must be associated with a licensed infertility doctor, surrogate mother, adoption agency, or attorney.
  • Applicants must be a member of Infertility and Adoption Support, Inc.
  • Applicants must be active in IAS support meetings and must have attended at least 2 support meetings in the 6 months prior to applying for the grant.

How often can I apply?

You may apply annually as long as you are in the adoption/infertility process, however, you can only receive one grant per process. You must resubmit the full application, and all supplemental material; due to the sensitive nature of the documents, all rejected applications are shredded following each award cycle.

Does it matter what kind of adoption/infertility treatment I am pursuing?

We help fund domestic, international, and embryo adoptions, IUI and IVF treatments; and surrogacy. We do not provide grants for step-parent or second-parent adoptions.

How much do you award?

Grants will range from $500-$1500 and will depend on the current amount available based on IAS annual fundraising efforts.

When do you award the grants?

All grant applications will be reviewed and grants awarded on a quarterly basis.

What are the application deadlines?

Grant applications will be reviewed on a quarterly basis.  All applications and supplemental materials must be postmarked by one of the following dates in order to be reviewed in the month following the deadline: March 31st, June 30th, September 30th, and December 31st.  Email submissions must be received by one of these deadlines in order to be reviewed in the month following the deadline.

How do I receive the grant if I am awarded one?

Grants will be awarded via check directly from Infertility and Adoption Support, Inc.

How do you make your decisions?

Qualified and complete applications received by our submission deadline will be presented to our board. The board will review the applications, discuss them, and make a final decision. All sections of the application will be taken into consideration.  In order to keep the decisions unbiased, applications for infertility grants will be reviewed by our adoption board members, and applications for adoption grants will be reviewed by our infertility board members.

At what point in the adoption process should I apply?

Infertility Treatments
We recommend that for Infertility Treatments, you apply once you have a diagnosis and a treatment plan in place with a doctor.

Surrogacy

We recommend that for Surrogacy, you apply once you have been matched with a surrogate and a plan is in place for transferring embryos.

Domestic/Embryo Adoption
We recommend that for domestic adoption, you apply as soon as your home study is complete, and your application is ready to be shown to expectant parents.

International Adoption
We recommend for international adoption, you submit an application after your child has been identified.

Foster-to-Adopt
We recommend you apply at any time after your home study is complete.

What other services does Infertility and Adoption Support, Inc. provide?

Infertility and Adoption Support, Inc (IAS) provides monthly support group meetings.  These meetings are open to anyone (members and non-members) and meet on the 1st Thursday of the month at 11701 Borman Drive, St. Louis, MO 63146 from 7-9pm.  There are separate meetings for Infertility Support and for Adoption Support.  To learn more about these meetings, please visit us at www.infertilityandadoption.org.

How does the submission and review process work?

The application is only available on our website; we cannot distribute paper copies of the application. Every question must be answered in full, and the application and all supplemental documentation must be submitted to us by the deadline. Please note that if anything is missing from the application, it will not be considered. The grant selection committee will review the completed applications and then discuss them. They will then make their decisions based on all of the information provided and on the funds available.

What if I have already received a grant from another organization?

You are still eligible. On your application, please note the amount received and explain the details of the grant.

How likely am I to receive a grant?

It is impossible to say ahead of time as your application will be compared to other applications received.  The best way to increase your chance of receiving a grant is to include a meaningful personal statement that fully explains your circumstances, why the grant is necessary for your adoption/infertility treatments, and any unexplained inconsistencies in your application.

What is the application fee?

Infertility and Adoption Support, Inc. does not charge an application fee.

Do you need my social security number?

Some documents you submit (e.g. home study) may include your social security number. You may black these out if you wish; we do not require that your social security number be included with your application. All documents are shredded after the cycle is complete.
